If you passed 3 years' Engineering Diploma or Plus Two with physics Chemistry and Mathematics, you are eligible !
Minimum Percentage of Marks
Diploma holders are eligible for AMIE. For Plus two holders minimum 45% marks required for admission. (Physics + Chemistry + Maths = 45% or above, ALSO the aggregate marks must be 45% and above).
Minimum age 17 years. No maximum age restriction.
The time required to complete the AMIE course changes, depending on one's qualification. Once you joined (got membership registration) the maximum period available for completing the course is 12 years. This is the time available for clearing Section A and Sectioon B. Six years' time is given for clearing all subjects in Section A and another six years is given for clearing all subjects in Section B. This means, a student registered for AMIE course needs to clear all subjects in 12 years period.
Maximum time allowed for clearing all subjects in Section A is 6 years (for Diploma & +2 holders). Another 6 years is given for clearing Section B subjects also.
If you study systematically, you can clear both sections A & B in minimum time. For diploma holders, the minimum time required to completely pass AMIE is 2 years and for others it is 3 and half years.
In order to join for AMIE, you must first apply for membership. Getting membership is same as enrolment. Membership is mandatory for joining AMIE. The AMIE examinations are conducted in every June and December. In order to appear for examination, one should have 'membership' or enrollment with IEI. Once you got membership you are eligible for applying for AMIE examination.
Only enrolled members are eligible for appearing examination.
Who can get Membership
Based on basic qualification, there are different classes of memberships.
(1). Senior Technician
Three years' Engineering Diploma holders, with minimum 18 years age are eligible for applying Senior Technician (ST) Membership.
Plus Two holders (Physics, Chemistry & Maths) with minimum 17 years age are eligible for applying for Technician Membership.
(3). Associate Member
B.Tech/B.E holders (and those passed Section B of AMIE) with minimum 21 years age are eligible to become Associate members.
To get membership, the student must submit application,Along with the application form, the applicant must enclose attested copies of certificates to prove his age and qualification.
For age proof, following documents are acceptable.

Section B is the second part of AMIE examination. Those who successfully cleared all subjects in Section A can apply for Section B registration. They can submit the application for section B registration immediately after their Section A result published.
In section B a student studies his chosen subject in detail. Hence he can select his choice branch of engineering . A list of available engineering branches given below.

Who can register for Section B ?
There are two catagory of candidates who are eligible for Section B Registration.
1. All those who passed Section A examination (ST or T members) can apply for Section B registration.
2. B.Tech/B.E/M.Tech/M.E holders who have already got AM Registration and wish to take degree in another branch of engineering may also apply for Section B Registration.
If you were not able to clear Section A or Section B in the stipulated period of six years, don't loose hope, you can re-register for AMIE and continue your studies. You will get another six years !
As per Examination Rules the maximum period allowed for passing Section A or Section B Examination is six years. Candidates, who did not clear all subjects in Section A/B in six years time can apply for Examination Re-registration.
RE-REGISTRATION IN SECTION A
Candidates, who are unsuccessful to qualify Section A Examination in six year, shall be permitted to appear afresh in Section A Examination. Subject(s) exemption(s) secured during six years, if any, shall be forfeited. They would be required to pass Section A Examination afresh as per the existing scheme by paying the requisite fees along with Re-registration Application Form.
RE-REGISTRATION IN SECTION B
Candidates, who have already qualified Section A Examination but unsuccessful to qualify Section B Examination in six years, shall be permitted to appear afresh in Section B Examination in existing scheme retaining their Section A status, by paying the requisite fees. They would be required to apply for Re-registration and also Section B Registration in the prescribed proforma. In such cases, subject(s) exemption(s) secured during six-years, if any, shall be forfeited and they would need to pass Section B Examination afresh as per the existing scheme . Also, they would be required to do project work and the laboratory experiments afresh.
Before applying for Examination Re-registration, Candidates are advised to read the following carefully:
The validity of registration (ST/T) is for six years or 12 examination chances. If your 12 examination chances have already elapsed, you are eligible for re-registration. Hence candidates whose date of enrolment is prior to 30/8/2011 are eligible for re-registration

If you apply for re-registration, your membership status will be updated. You can apply for examination and after clearing all subjects you can become a graduate engineer!
If your re-registration has beed done successfully, you can appear for examination from the next immediate sesstion.
AMIE after B.Tech
Additional Degree in Engineering
Are you a B.Tech/B.E holder in any engineering descipline (say Electronics Engg) ? You can take an additional degree (say in Civil Engg) through AMIE. They can appear for AMIE examination at any center and when they clear certain number of subjects they get another degree in engineering !! The procedure is very simple.
Who is eligible?
B.Tech/B.E holders from recognized university, no mark restriction.
In order to get an additional degree , first you must apply for 'Associate Membership' of Institution of Engineers. After getting associate membership you must register for Section B part of AMIE. While registering for Section B, you can choose any desired branch of engineering. After Registering for Section B, you can apply and appear for Section B examination of your choosen branch of engineering. When you clear 9 subjects in Section B examination, you get an additional AMIE degree in your choosen branch.
Step 1. Apply for 'Associate Membership'.To become an "Associate Member",download, print out and fill up
"application form to become Associate Member"
Step 2. Seek help from any 'Supporter' known to you to verify your photograph and signature. A supporter is normally a senior AMIE/MIE/FIE holder who will introduce you to the engineers community called the IEI (Institution of Engineers, India ).
Step 3. Pay fee of Rs 4189/- as DD, drawn in favour of "The Institution of Engineers (India)" payable at Kolkata. This is the fee for registering as an Associate Member.
Step 4. Filled up appplication form along with fee and necessary documents (Proof of age and qualification)are to send to IEI Kolkata. Once your membership is granted you become an AMIE, (viz Associate Member of Institution of Engineers) in the same branch of your B.Tech.
Step 5. Once you became an Associate Member (AM) now are eligible for appearing for Section B examinations of IEI.
